What Solopreneurs Should NEVER Give to AI

I use AI heavily in my solo business. I’ve written previously about handing tasks over to artificial intelligence, and I’m a genuine advocate for it.  But I’ve also drawn clear lines around what AI does and doesn’t touch in my work. The question isn’t just, “What can AI do for me?” (because the answer is “a lot”). It’s also, “What’s important enough that I should keep doing it myself?” {"blockType":"mv-promo-block","data":{"imageDesktopUrl":"https:\/\/images.fastcompany.com\/image\/upload\/f_web

Can the Government Actually CONTROL Who Gets AI Worldwide?

When the U.S. Commerce Department ordered Anthropic on June 12 to immediately prevent all foreign nationals from using the artificial intelligence company’s two most advanced large language models, Anthropic disabled its Claude Fable 5 and Mythos 5 models within hours, making them inaccessible to everyone. The company had little choice. The letter, citing national security concerns, barred access by all foreign nationals, including Anthropic’s own noncitizen employees. With no way to immediately

Nvidia's Next Move Doesn't Need What You THINK It Needs

Hello again, and welcome back to Fast Company’s Plugged In. Last week, I attended an Nvidia media event that included a field trip to an undisclosed location in Silicon Valley—a building without any identifying signage. Though hundreds of racked GPUs were chugging away at real AI tasks inside, Nvidia calls the facility an “engineering superlab” rather than a data center. Among the AI being crunched during our visit: a test version of OpenAI’s GPT model optimized for Nvidia’s new Vera Rubin platf

AI Is About to ELIMINATE the Entry-Level Job as You Know It

As AI continues to automate routine tasks, some progressive organizations are shifting early-career roles to handle complex work that requires judgment. As a result, junior employees need to navigate ambiguity and deliver higher-impact outputs much earlier in their careers. But most organizations haven’t tailored their development approaches to match these new expectations. According to a September 2025 survey by Gartner, learning and development leaders say that investment in early-career devel

Facebook's Desperate Plan to Become What It DESTROYED

Facebook is planning some big changes to try and keep its users from jumping to rival social platforms like TikTok - changes that sound dubiously similar to becoming a TikTok clone. Facebook head Tom Alison announced today that the platform will begin testing a "reimagined experience" later this year that will put a subset of users into a "full-screen video the moment they open the app." Meta didn't share examples of what its experimental new interface will look like, only that it will initially

What TikTok Was Doing to Your Kids That NOBODY Could Stop

TikTok has attracted the ire of the European Union over its protection of children who use the video sharing platform. The European Commission announced preliminary findings today under the Digital Services Act (DSA) that offer specific issues to address. The Commission suggests that TikTok should adjust the default settings of minors' "public" accounts so the content they post is only visible to TikTok users the teen has chosen to share it with, and that such content shouldn't be recommended to

The AI Shift That Could END America's Tech DOMINANCE

Top executives at leading Western AI companies are increasingly warning about the safety and national security risks posed by Chinese open-weight frontier models. What they tend not to mention is that these models are improving rapidly and, because they are freely available, pose a serious threat to Western labs’ business models. The most powerful models from U.S. labs such as OpenAI, Anthropic, and Google DeepMind are closed, meaning the parameters that shape their outputs are kept secret. Gene

The New Game of Whack-a-DRONE Taking Over

In Pasadena, California, there's a cute red brick courtyard where one storefront isn't like the rest. The glass doors open onto a sparse industrial hallway, which leads to a sunlit foyer with a large spiral staircase. Go up, and you'll see a typical coworking space: open tables, healthy snacks, a collection of meeting rooms with glass walls. Follow one hallway most of the way back, and you'll find Office 18. There are no signs of life in this tiny private office that's supposed to be the headqua

Why AI Success Depends on ALIGNMENT

Whether an organization reaps the benefits of AI depends on the state of its data and how effectively the organization aligns information, priorities, and a definition of success across teams. When AI is grounded in accurate, complete, and governed data from a trusted system of record, it can deliver meaningful outcomes. But when data, processes, and objectives are not connected across functions, AI’s impact is limited, and teams risk relying on insights or actions that lack the context and trus

The Google Problem Publishers Can No Longer IGNORE

And the web is being forced to reckon with what happens when the Google traffic dries up. Meta's Smart Glasses Just Created a Problem They Can't CONTROL

Rogue OpenAI Agents Just FORCED Congress to Consider an 'AI Kill Switch' Bill

That’s why two congressmen have crafted a bipartisan bill to keep AI under control. On Thursday, Rep. Ted Lieu (D-CA) and Rep. Nathaniel Moran (R-TX) introduced the “AI Kill S

The Startup Compliance Story That Turned Into a WARNING for Everyone

Why Technical Expertise Won't Make You a LEADER Anymore

For nearly two decades, I’ve worked in and alongside organizations at the most senior levels. And I see one clear pattern—your most technically brilliant people aren’t always your best leaders. The organizations that retain their best people aren’t necessarily full of technically gifted employees. They do, however, choose leaders who make people feel that the work matters and they matter too. Technical expertise will often get you hired, but will not, on its own, make you a leader people choose
